Rehab bridge

The rehabilitation project on WYO 22, over the Snake River, at milepost 3.76, and is scheduled to begin on June 29. Traffic will be restricted to one-way alternating traffic, from the hours of 6:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. Monday through Friday.The bridge will be open to continuous two-way traffic each day from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.  Work is scheduled to be complete by July 24th.  The parking area on the Southwest side of the bridge will be closed during that time and river users should use the park

UW soil scientist receives Borlaug award for leadership in agriculture

A soil science doctoral student at the University of Wyoming has received a prestigious Norman Borlaug award for leadership in agriculture.Eusebius Mukhwana of Kenya was notified of the honor from The Borlaug Leadership Enhancement in Agriculture Program (LEAP). Nobel Laureate Norman E. Borlaug was the driving force behind the establishment of the World Food Prize in 1985. That award is given annually in recognition of outstanding human achievements in the fields of food production and nutrition.

A Boy Scout leader was caught in a whirlpool on the Snake River last Friday, June 26, and was pronounced dead at St. John’s Hospital in Jackson after CPR failed to revive him. He was wearing a life jacket, but was trapped underwater for three to four minutes at a place named Three Oar Deal.Arthur Craig McCuistion, age 50, of Rexburg, Idaho, was one of four scout leaders who were tossed into the river. A new law will make ignition interlock devices mandatory for many drivers convicted of drunken driving in Wyoming beginning July 1.Ignition interlocks prevent a vehicle from starting unless the driver first passes a breath test. The 2009 Legislature made the devices mandatory for six months for anyone convicted of a first driving under the influence offense in which their blood alcohol content is .15 percent or greater. The number of laboratory-confirmed cases of swine Mexican flu (novel H1N1) virus in Wyoming residents has gone up to 72.  To date, the Wyoming Department of Health has confirmed cases in eight counties. Stimulus funds help area highways

Rock Springs – The economic stimulus money the Wyoming Department of Transportation District Three is receiving will bring a big boost to preserving the highways in southwest Wyoming.
